Polyvinyl Chloride

PVC has been called the poison plastic by Greenpeace International. PVC contains plasticizer, which is extremely toxic. It also releases heavy metals such as dioxin, lead, and mercury that are carcinogenic under high temperatures due to its low heat resistance. However, due to its cheap cost and ease of manufacturing, PVC has been widely used in various types of consumer goods and decorative building materials, which threatens our environment and health. At present, the elimination of PVC is the common goal of more than 100 countries around the world, including the United States, the European Union, and Japan.

Melamine resin

Melamine resin is often used as a material for drop-resistant dining bowls and decorative boards. Melamine resin is a plastic material made of formaldehyde and melamine polymerize, which releases its toxins when heated. Exposure to high levels of melamine will increase the chance of infant kidney diseases. Formaldehyde is an irritating and suffocating colorless gas, which has been classified as a first-class carcinogen by the World Health Organization. When you smell a strong pungent odor in your newly decorated home, you might need to check the formaldehyde concentration of your building materials. Moreover, staying in a low formaldehyde environment for extended periods of time could still cause chronic respiratory tract, cancer, birth defections and other health related problems, which is a critical threat to the wellbeing of adults, infants, and even interior construction workers. 


Since PVC is gradually banned internationally, polypropylene has started to take its place. Polypropylene is a safer type of plastic that comes with ideal properties of low density, chemical resistance, durability, and high heat resistance that withstands temperatures from -20°C to 120 °C. PP contains zero formaldehyde,  plasticizer, and TVOC. It also emits zero toxins when burnt, which has no negative impacts on human health. Thus, PP is often used as a material for microwavable food containers and decorative building materials.
